2. A new tire may have balancing rubbers inside.
These are not patches and should not be disturbed.
3. Manufacturers place a colored spot near the
bead, indicateing a lighter point on the tire. Install
the tires so this balance mark (either the manufac-
turer's or the one made during removal) sits oppo-
site the valve stem (Figure 46).
4. Most tires have directional arrows on the side-
wall that indicate the direction of rotation. Install
the tire so the arrow points in the direction of for-
ward rotation.
5. Lubricate both beads of the tire with soapy wa-
ter.
6. Place the backside of the tire into the center of
the rim. The lower bead should go into the center of
the rim and the upper bead outside. Work around
the tire in both directions (Figure 65).
67
7. Starting at the side opposite the valve stem, press
the upper bead into the rim (Figure 66). Pry the
bead into the rim on both sides of the initial point
with a tire tool, working around the rim to the valve
(Figure 67).
8. Check the bead on both sides of the tire for an
even fit around the rim.
9. Place an inflatable band around the circumfer-
ence of the tire. Slowly inflate the band until the tire
beads are pressed against the rim. Inflate the tire
enough to seat it against the rim. Deflate and re-
move the band.
10. After inflating the tire, check to see that the
beads are fully seated and the tire rim lines are the
same distance from the rim all the way around the
tire (Figure 59). If the beads will not seat, deflate
the tire, re-lubricate the rim and beads with soapy
water, and re-inflate the tire.
11. Inflate the tire to the required pressure. Refer to
tire inflation pressure specifications listed in Table 3.
Screw on the valve stem cap.
12. Balance the wheel assembly as described in
this chapter.
Tables 1-4 are on the following pages.
WARNING
Never exceed 56 psi (4.0 k/cm
tion pressure as the tire could burst
causing severe injury. Never stand di
rectly over the tire while inflating it.
