3. If removed, install the stepped collar (Figure 31)
into the right side of the hub. Make sure the shoul-
dered side of the collar faces out.
4. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to the
splines of the driveshaft (Figure 32) and the univer-
sal joint (Figure 33).
5. Roll the rear wheel into position in the swing arm
so the splines of the driveshaft lightly engage those
of the universal joint (A, Figure 27). Make sure the
boot is in place on the driveshaft (B, Figure 27).
6. Set the caliper bracket (C, Figure 26) in position
between the wheel and the swing arm.
WARNING
The spacer (B, Figure 26) must sit be
tween the caliper bracket (C) and the
swing arm. If the washer is placed
outside the swing arm, the inner brake
pad will ride against the brake disc,
causing excessive wear and overheat
ing.
7. Install the spacer (B, Figure 26) onto the axle
(A), and slide the axle through the hub.
8. Roll the wheel forward so the driveshaft splines
completely engage those of the universal joint.
Hold the caliper bracket up so its cutout slides over
the mount on the swing arm. Make sure the spacer
(B, Figure 26) sits between the caliper bracket and
the swing arm.
9. Install the clamp onto the studs and fin-
ger-tighten the clamp nuts (B, Figure 23). The in-
dexing dot (Figure 24) on the clamp must face up.
10. Install the axle nut (B, Figure 25) and washer
(C). Finger-tighten the nut.
11. Install and finger-tighten the final gearcase
bolts (A, Figure 25).
12. Install and finger-tighten the rear caliper
bracket bolt (A, Figure 23).
