3. Pack the open side of each bearing with grease.
4A. Install rear hub bearings as follows:
a. Position the left inner bearing with the manu-
facturer's marks facing out and place the
bearing squarely on the bore opening on the
left side of the hub. Select a bearing driver

(Figure 12) or socket with an outside diame-
ter that matches (or is slightly smaller than)
the outside diameter of the bearing. Drive the
bearing into the bore until it bottoms.
b. Repeat substep a and install the left outer
bearing.
c. Turn the hub over. Install the distance collar
and center it against the left bearing's inner
race.
d. Place the right bearing (manufacturer's marks
facing out) squarely against the bore opening.
Select a bearing driver (Figure 13) or socket
with an outside diameter that matches the out-
side diameter of the bearing and drive the
bearing partway into the bore. Stop and check
the distance collar. It must still be centered
within the bearing. If it is not, install the axle
partway through the hub and center the
spacer. Remove the axle and continue install-
ing the bearing until it bottoms.
4B. Install bearings in the front hub as follows:
a. Position the bearing with the manufacturer's
marks facing out and place the bearing
squarely on the bore opening on the left side
of the hub. Select a bearing driver or socket
(Figure 14) with an outside diameter that
matches the outside diameter of the bearing.
Drive the bearing into the bore until it bot-
toms.
b. Turn the hub over. Install the distance collar
and center it against the left bearing's inner
race.
c. Place the right bearing (manufacturer's marks
facing out) squarely against the bore opening.
Using the same socket (Figure 14) or bearing
driver, drive the bearing partway into the
bore. Stop and check the distance collar. If it
