1. Securely support the motorcycle on level
ground.
2. Loosen the muffler clamp screw (A, Figure 107)
on each muffler.
3. Remove the muffler hanger bolts (B, Figure
107).
4. Pull the muffler assembly rearward. Separate
each muffler from its respective exhaust pipe and
remove the muffler assembly. Discard each muffler
gasket.
5. Remove the rear exhaust pipe as follows:
a. Remove the exhaust pipe-to-manifold bolts
(Figure 108) from the exhaust manifold on
the rear cylinder.
b. Pull the exhaust pipe from the manifold.
c. Remove and discard the exhaust gasket (Fig-
ure 109).
6. Remove the front exhaust pipe as follows:
NOTE
The front exhaust pipe can be re
moved with the cover (A, Figure 110)
installed on the pipe.
a. Remove the nuts (B, Figure 110), and pull the
exhaust pipe from the exhaust port.
b. Remove and discard the exhaust gasket (Fig-
ure 109).
7. Inspect the system as described below.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. Install a new exhaust gasket into the rear ex-
haust manifold (Figure 109) and into the ex-
haust port on the front cylinder.
b. Install a new muffler gasket (Figure 111) into
each muffler.
