a. Remove the two dowels (A Figure 77) from
the crankcase mating surface.
b. Remove the O-ring and its short collar (B,
Figure 77) from the boss beneath the crank-
shaft.
c. Remove the O-ring from the crankcase mat-
ing surface above the middle drive shaft.
13. Remove the oil pressure relief valve (Figure
78) and its O-ring from the right crankcase half.
Store the valve in a recloseable plastic bag.
14. Remove the middle drive gear (A, Figure 79)
from the countershaft and remove the middle driven
gear (B) from the middle drive shaft.
15. Remove the shift fork shaft (Figure 80). Note
that the cutout on the shaft faces the countershaft.
The shift fork shaft must be installed in this orienta-
tion during assembly.
NOTE
The left, center and right shift forks
are identified by a letter (L, C or R)
embossed on their faces (Figure 81).
Note the location and orientation of
the shift forks. Each fork must be rein
stalled into its original location with
the identification mark facing up out
of the crankcase.
16. Rotate the center shift fork (Figure 82) away
from the shift drum and remove the fork from the
mainshaft second-third combination gear.
17. Rotate the left (A, Figure 83) and right (B)
shift forks away from the shift drum (C), and lift the
drum from the crankcase.
18. Remove the right shift fork (A, Figure 84)
from the countershaft fourth gear and remove the
left shift fork (B) from countershaft fifth gear.
19. Simultaneously lift both the mainshaft assem-
bly (A, Figure 85) and the countershaft assembly
