Replace any jet or holder if its holes cannot be
unplugged.
5. Make sure all openings in the carburetor body
are clear. Clean them out if they are plugged in any
way.
6. Inspect the slide bore in the carburetor body.
Make sure it is clean and free of any burrs or ob-

structions that may cause the vacuum piston to hang
up during normal operation.
7. Inspect the vacuum piston (B, Figure 61) for
scoring and wear. Replace it if necessary.
8. Inspect the diaphragm on the vacuum piston for
tears, cracks or other damage. Replace the vacuum
piston if the diaphragm is damaged.
9. Inspect the jet needle (Figure 66) for excessive
wear at the tip or other damage.
10. Inspect the float (A, Figure 67) for deteriora-
tion or damage. Check for leaks by placing the float
in a container of water. If the float sinks or if bub-
bles appear, replace the float.
11. Inspect the needle valve assembly as follows:
a. Inspect the end of the needle valve for wear or

damage. See Figure 68.
b. Check the inside of the valve seat (B, Figure
67). A damaged needle valve or a particle of
dirt or grit in the float valve assembly will
cause the carburetor to flood and fuel to over-
flow.
c. Inspect the filter on the end of the valve seat.
If there are any holes or if the filter is starting
to deteriorate, replace the needle valve as-
sembly.
d. Inspect the O-ring on the valve seat. If it is
torn or beginning to harden, replace the nee-
dle valve assembly.
e. If any part is worn or damaged, replace the
entire assembly, the valve seat and the needle
valve as a set.
12. If the coasting enricher diaphragm was re-
moved, inspect it for tears, cracks or other damage.
Replace the diaphragm if there is any damage.
13. If removed, inspect the starter plunger (Figure
69) for wear or damage.
