Inspection
The condition of the seat belts is
important to the safety of you and
your passengers. You should inspect
them regularly for frayed webbing,
cuts, and wear. Check that the latch
mechanisms work smoothly and
cannot be pulled apart after they
latch.

Replacement
Have the seat belt replaced if:
The belt material is cut, punctured,
frayed, burned, etc.
The buckle does not latch or
release smoothly and easily, or
does not stay latched.
The retractor does not work
properly.
The seat belt was being worn
during a collision. This strains the
fabric and the belt could fail in
another collision. When it is
replaced, also have the belt an-
chors checked for any damage.
Cleaning
Keep the seat belts clean and dry. A
damp belt is uncomfortable, does not
perform as well, and will not go in
and out of the retractor as easily.
To clean the seat belts:
1. Pull the seat belts out of their
retractors so the areas you want to
clean are fully exposed.
2. Use a soft brush to scrub them
with a mixture of mild soap and
warm water. Bleach, dye, and
cleaning solvents can weaken the
seat belt material.
3. Let them air-dry out of their
retractors with the windows open.
