The seat belts in your Acura are
designed to help protect you in a
collision. If you wear them properly,
they can reduce your injuries and
could even save your life. It is the law
in many states, and all of Canada, that
you wear your seat belt at all times.
A crash, sudden stop, or
emergency maneuver can
cause you to be seriously
injured or killed if you are not
wearing your seat belt.
Be sure you and your passen-
gers are properly wearing
their seat belts.
Table of Contents
Your car has seat belts at all five
seating positions. Except for the
center of the back seat, all belts are
one-piece lap/shoulder belts and
have automatic retractors. The belt in
the center of the back seat is lap-only.
Each seat belt should be worn by
only one person.
The automatic retractors allow you to
move freely while keeping adequate
tension on the seat belt. These retrac-
tors will lock up fully during a
collision or sudden stop. They will
not lock up if you just pull on the seat
belt suddenly while sitting still.
The seat belts are designed for adults
and larger children. Infants and small
children should ride in a proper child
restraint. See Child Restraint Sys-
tems (page 11) for more information.

Seat Belts

Do not install comfort clips, shoulder
belt pads, or any other commercially-
available accessory on your car's seat
belts. These accessories reduce the
effectiveness of the seat belts,
increasing your chance of injury.
Wearing the Front Seat Belts
For your safety, position the seat
belts as directed. An improperly-
positioned seat belt can worsen your
injuries in a crash.
To fasten the driver's or passenger's
seat belt:
1. Make sure the doors are securely
closed and locked.
