3. Pre-discharge

Outline
Pre-discharge is carried out to remove ink
adhering to the inside of nozzles, to prevent the
mixing of different colors of ink in color heads after
wiping, and to maintain the nozzles in an optimum
working state before starting printing. Pre-discharge
involves discharging ink to the pre-discharge
receptacle or caps.

Timing
@ Atstart of printing
Ink is pre-discharged to the pre-discharge
receptacle in the order Y, M, C and Bk heads before
starting printing.
@®, During printing
The preset time that pre-discharge is carried
out during printing is set for each of the heads. This
time is calculated by the environmental temperature
detected by the thermistor on the volume PCB and
the head temperature detected by the head
temperature sensor located in the vicinity of the
head nozzles.
Ifa head reaches its preset time during printing,
the carriage moves over the caps before printing in
the advance direction and ink is pre-discharged
simultaneously for all heads concerned.
The preset time is reset if a pre-discharge is
carried out.
@® After wiping
The carriage moves over the caps and ink is
discharged after ink on the head surfaces is wiped
by the wiper blade.
