C. Head Cleaning Functions
1. Outline
Head cleaning on this printer involves three
operations: wiping, suction and pre-discharge.
Wiping wipes ink and dust or dirt from the head
surface. Pre-discharge discharges ink on the purge
unit to maintain the head in an optimum working
state. Suction sucks in ink or air bubbles inside the
head nozzles.
2. Wiping Function

Outline
When the carriage retracts, the wiper blades
are raised by wiper solenoids (SL1, SL2) to wipe ink
from the head surface. Ink adhering to the wiper
blades is absorbed by the blade cleaner on the
carriage.

Operation
When the carriage is at the position left of the
wiper blade, wiper solenoid 2 (SL2) is turned
ON to raise wiper blade 2.

2) Ink adhering to the surface of head (Y) is wiped
off by wiper blade 2 as the carriage retracts. Ink
wiped off by the wiper blade is then wiped off by
the blade cleaner. The blade cleaner is
attached to the bottom of the carriage.
