8.3.1 Checking the switches and micro switches function
Switches either open a circuit to stop
current flow or close and allow current
to flow through.
• A normally open (NO) switch pre-
vents current flow until the switch is
switched on, completing the circuit
and allowing current to flow through
it.
• A normally closed switch (NC) al-
lows current to flow until the switch
is actuated, breaking the circuit and
stopping current flow through it.
To check the operation of a switch or
micro switch you must have an Ohm-
meter-dependent tester.
Disconnect the connector and con-
nect the tester tips to the different contacts of the component concerned; the reading must cor-
respond to what is indicated in the following table, where the red continuous line indicates the
internal electrical continuity.
