Fast Start Procedures

The master node may implement optional fast start procedures. These procedures
are used to decrease the amount of time it takes to begin active NNI traffic transfer
on the selected link.
During the initialization phase, the master node may choose to send full status
enquiry messages on the preferred link and LIV status enquiry messages on the
alternate link. The full status enquiry messages can be used to verify link integrity
on the preferred link.
The master node may send a full status enquiry every polling interval on the
preferred link. During the initialization phase N391 shall be set to 1. The polling
interval, T391, default will be 10 seconds. T391 must support a configurable
range of 5 to 30 seconds.
The master node will send full status enquiry messages on the selected link for a
configurable amount of time. If the configurable amount of time expires, then the
master node assumes that the selected link is unavailable. The master node will
then attempt to activate the alternate link.
The amount of time that the master node sends full status enquiry messages on
either link will be based on a counter called N_attempt. This counter operates in a
similar manner to N391. N_attempt specifies the number of polling intervals
(T391) to attempt to activate the link. N_attempt must be greater than N391. For
example, if T391 is set to 10 seconds and N_attempt is set to 18, the master node
will attempt to activate the link for 180 seconds. At the expiration of N_attempt,
the master node stops sending the full status enquiry messages on the selected link
and switches to the alternate link. This procedure is repeated and alternates
between links until an active link is selected.
After the slave node has responded to the full status enquiry, the master node must
dynamically change N391 back to the pre-configured value.
