Creating a layout

A layout is a map or floor plan of an area where devices are tracked with the Nortel WLAN Location Engine. For
example, if your organization is housed on 6 floors of a 10 story building, you can create 6 layouts.
The layout in and of itself is a building block: it serves as the backdrop against which the Nortel WLE2340 Dashboard
depicts live views of the Wi-Fi activity in the physical area represented by the layout.
To create a layout
1
Use the Layout wizard and import a floor plan image (gif, jpeg, or png).
2
Use the Locale Rectangle Tool or Locale Freeform Tool to draw the Locales on the layout. Associate
the drawn locales with the actual locales tracked by the WLE2340.
3
Use the RF Fingerprint and Sensor tools to place icons on the drawn locales and associate those icons
with the actual RF Fingerprints and Sensors in those locales. (Each locale is associated with one or more
RF fingerprints. The Nortel WLAN Location Engine matches the RF fingerprint of a device to the
fingerprints it has on file for each locale in order to accurately determine the locale of each device.)
4
Use the Scale Tool to indicate the scale of the drawn locales.
