Anemia causes decreased arterial oxygen content. Although SpO
readings may appear normal, an anemic patient may be hypoxic.
Correcting anemia can improve arterial oxygen content. The pulse
oximeter may fail to provide an SpO
5 gm/dl.
The N-560 will only measure saturation levels between 1 and 100%.
The N-560 will only measure pulse rates between 20 and 250 beats per
minute. Detected pulse rates outside the range of 20 to 250 beats per
minute are displayed as the closest value within the range.
WARNING: Pulse oximetry readings and pulse signal can be affected
by certain ambient conditions, sensor application errors, and certain
patient conditions.
Inaccurate measurements can be caused by:
incorrect application of the sensor
placement of the sensor on an extremity with a blood pressure
cuff, arterial catheter, or intravascular line
ambient light
excessive patient movement
Loss-of-pulse signal can occur for the following reasons:
the sensor is applied too tightly
if hemoglobin levels fall below
