5.5. Calibration

Calibration is necessary before using the Main output of the MAS-A100 for speech
reinforcement. Calibration simulates the positional relationship of MAS-A100 units
with the loudspeakers and the acoustic characteristics of a room to optimize the audio
for the Main output. Calibration is required when the MAS-A100 units are installed,
when the loudspeaker or MAS-A100 position is changed, or the settings for the audio
system is changed.
If the volume and audio quality settings (master volume, microphone input gain,
equalizer settings) of the audio system in which the MAS-A100 units are connected
are changed, the units will be out of calibration and may not operate normally.
If the installation location or audio system changes significantly or the intended use
changes, reset the MAS-A100 units to the factory default state (see "6.3 Factory
reset" (page 81)), initialize the units again, and then perform calibration.
Tips on calibration
Remain quiet during calibration. Random noises may affect the optimization.
Calibration where the MAS-A100 unit is located may not be successful in a noisy
environment (such as exhibition hall, noisy classroom, air conditioning, outdoor
construction work) where the noise level exceeds 40 dB (A weighted).
Set the audio system for speech reinforcement not to use any non-linear signal
processing (such as noise reduction or automatic gain control where the gain is
automatically reduced in response to input noise) for the input from the MAS-A100. If
such a process is activated, calibration using noise cannot be performed normally.
