9. Insert a small nail, cotter pin or small pin in
Hole "B" and continue threading the tie rod
terminal onto the tie rod until the pin is light-
ly clamped.
10. Back the tie rod terminal OFF 1/2 turn and
remove pin.
11. Using a wrench on the tie rod terminal flats to
prevent the tie rod terminal from turning,
tighten the jam nut against tie rod terminal to
30 ft-lb.
12. Attach the starboard rod terminal to the star-
board swivel clevis.
13. Tighten the nut to 12 ft-lb.
14. Attach the port engine swivel clevis as
explained in Step 1.
15. Place the port rod terminal in the port swivel
clevis, install bolt and nut but do not tighten
them.
16. Set the engines so the toe-out position is less
than 1 inch. (See the illustration below).
Dual Engine Tie Bar Kit Installation
NOTE: For best results, your toe-out distance
should be set so the twin engines' wake meets
approximately 25-50 ft past the stern of the boat.
17. Swing the tie rod up and align it parallel with
the tie rod terminal on the port swivel clevis.
18. Place a piece of tape on the threaded rod
(aligned in the center of the two holes) on the
tie rod terminal. This will be the length of the
tie rod.
19. Cut the tie bar at the marked length. Then, de-
burr the threads of the rod with a die and
thread file. Grease the threads with Yamaha
Marine Grease.
20. Align the rod as before, and cut the black
vinyl tube to the proper length to fit between
the rod terminals.
21. Install the black vinyl tube.
