PREPARATION BEFORE

CONTROL CABLE INFORMATION

The throttle and shift control cables are con-
structed of an inner cable and an outer tube
(cable) which guides the inner cable. Some
space must be provided between the inner
cables and the tube to allow the inner cable to
move freely. When a control cable is bent, this
space between the inner cable and the tube
allows some additional movement of the inner
cable as it is pushed and then pulled. This addi-
tional movement is called "end play."
The amount of end play in a control cable is
determined by the angle of the bend(s) in the
cable, the number of bends, and the quality of
the cable, which control the amount of space
between the inner cable and the tube. Too
much end play can prevent controls from work-
ing properly, so cables must be installed care-
fully.
WARNING
The Dual Station junction unit will not work
properly if the control cables have exces-
sive end play. Improper operation of the
junction unit can cause improper throttle
and shift control. Make sure excessive end
play is eliminated.
To prevent excessive end play, these cable
selection recommendations should be fol-
lowed:
1.
Use quality cables
To reduce the internal space and reduce
the resulting end play to a minimum,
always use YAMAHA CONTROL CABLES
or cables of equivalent design and quality.
