14. Click Continue. The G250 Serial Modem Configuration screen appears.
15. In the IP Address field, enter the RAS IP address of the modem obtained using the ART
tool. See
16. Fill in the remaining modem information fields.
17. Select the authentication method:
If you have an Avaya Service contract, check Enable ASG Authentication to enable
remote access to the device. If you select this option, you must also install an
authentication file using the Gateway Authentication screen of the GIW.
If you do not have an Avaya Service contract:
- Check Enable CHAP Authentication.
- In the CHAP Secret field, enter the CHAP secret key obtained using the ART tool.

- In the Confirm CHAP Secret field, reenter the CHAP secret key.
18. Click Continue. The Connect Modem screen appears.
19. Click Finish.
20. Connect the serial modem to a working telephone line.
21. Connect the provided DB-25 adapter to the modem.
22. Disconnect the flat cable from the COM port of the laptop computer.
23. Connect the flat cable to the DB-25 connector on the modem.

Enabling and connecting a USB modem

You can enable a MultiTech MT5634ZBA-USB or US Robotics 5637 USB modem on the USB
port on the G250 front panel.
1. Prepare a PC with a CD-ROM drive and a TFTP server on the network. This may be
needed for installing software and firmware upgrades.
