If the balloon is over-inflated, sterile water will leak from the
distal end in order to prevent balloon rupture or detachment.
Therefore, it is desirable to use saline solution for avoiding
airway irritation.
1.
Connect the extension tube, 3-way stopcock, and syringe to the irrigation
port as shown in Figure 3.25.
2.
Fill the syringe with 10 to 15 cm
saline and connect it to the 3-way stopcock and depress the plunger.
3.
Confirm that fluid is emitted from the distal end.
