2. Apply the specified pressure to check
that the pressure is maintained in the
lower unit for at least 10 seconds.
NOTICE: Do not over pressurize the
lower unit, otherwise the oil seals may
be damaged.
Holding pressure:
68.6 kPa (0.686 kgf/cm
3. If the specified pressure cannot be
maintained,
check
propeller shaft and shift rod oil seals for
damage. If necessary, check each shaft
for bends and damage.

Installing the lower unit

• Do not hold the propeller with your
hands when loosening or tightening it.
• Make sure to disconnect the battery
cables from the battery and the clip from
the engine shut-off switch.
• When installing the lower unit with the
power unit installed, make sure to sus-
pend the outboard motor. If the outboard
motor is not suspended it can fall sud-
denly and result in severe injury.

3. Install the dowels b into the lower unit
and extension.
4. Install the lower unit and extension to the
upper case, and then tighten the lower
case mounting bolts c to the specified
torque.
5. Install the trim tab d to its original
position, and then tighten the trim tab bolt
e to the specified torque.

47 N·m (4.7 kgf·m, 34.7 ft·lb)
Trim tab bolt e:
42 N·m (4.2 kgf·m, 31.0 ft·lb)
