5. Install
the
spark
temporarily, and then tighten to the
specified torque using a spark plug
wrench.
Spark plug:
25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m, 18.4 ft·lb)
Checking the timing belt
1. Check the timing belt. See "Checking the
timing belt and sprocket" (7-29).
Replacing the timing belt
1. Replace the timing belt. See "Replacing
the timing belt" (7-18).
Checking the thermostat
1. Remove the flywheel magnet cover.
2. Remove the cover a, gasket b, and
thermostat c.

TIP:
Do not reuse the gasket b, always replace
them with a new one.
3. Suspend the thermostat in a container of
water.
4. Place a thermometer in the water and
slowly heat the water.

General Periodic Maintenance
5. Measure the thermostat valve opening a
at the specified water temperatures.
Replace
the
thermostat
specification.

58.0–62.0 °C
(136.4–143.6 °F)

6. Install the thermostat and cover, and then
tighten the cover bolts to the specified
torques in 2 stages.
Thermostat cover bolt:
1st: 6 N·m (0.6 kgf·m, 4.4 ft·lb)
2nd: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.9 ft·lb)
Adjusting the throttle link and
throttle cable
1. Remove the intake silencer.
2. Loosen the locknut a, remove the clip
b, and then disconnect the throttle cable
joint c at fully closed position.
