Configuring a Modem Using AT Commands
When using AT commands, the following criteria must
be met:
Make sure the asynchronous DTE's communication
software is configured for 10-bit character format
(including the start bit); for example, 8 data bits, no
parity, and 1 stop bit.
Make sure the DTE (RS-232D) cable is attached to
the DTE connector on the rear of the
COMSPHERE 3000 Series Carrier, and the correct
serial communications port on the asynchronous
DTE.
On initial power-up, the modem is in Command
mode. To verify that the modem is connected and
functioning properly, enter the following:
TYPE: AT
PRESS: Return (Enter)
The screen displays OK.
To change a factory template using AT commands,
perform the following steps.
Procedure
1. Load the appropriate factory configuration to the
appropriate storage area, followed by the &W0
command to store the configuration in Active
(Saved). Factory preset configurations for the
WDG are &F7 (Mobile) and &F8 (PSTN). Which
configuration you select depends on whether you
are configuring a modem in an odd-numbered slot
(which communicates with Mobile, cellular
modems) or a modem in an even-numbered slot
(which communicates with a PSTN).
TYPE: AT&Fn&W0Z
Where: n is one of the following Factory
configurations:
7 for WDG(Mobile) (odd-numbered
slots when the WDG is used as a
standalone system)
8 for WDG(PSTN) (even-numbered
slots when the WDG is used as a
standalone system)
PRESS: Return (Enter)
2. The selected factory configuration is saved and the
modem is reset.

Some factory preset configurations inhibit AT
command control. To regain AT command control, select
the correct WDG factory preset configuration.
Modem Configuration Options for the WDG
Table 4-1 shows the values put in effect by loading the
Active (Saved) area straps with the WDG preset factory
configurations using the SDCP, or the AT command &Fn.
Note that some settings are different for cellular side
modems (odd slots) and PSTN side modems (even slots).
Straps not shown have the same defaults as when the
Async Dial (&F0) preset factory configuration is selected.

In order to meet the AAC's FCC
Part 68 requirements, the
modem's transmit power level
must be set no higher than
–12 dBm, and the AAC's TX
TLP and RX TLP options must
be set to 0.0.
