ACCULINK Access Controller. An AT&T product which permits connection to a
variety of network services.
Advanced Diagnostic protocol. An enhanced diagnostic communication protocol
used with the 6700 and 6800 Series NMS and with certain front panel diagnostic func-
tions.
The group of commands used to control and configure a modem through a DTE
such as a personal computer. The commands must be preceded by the characters
AT.
Control Channel. The diagnostic interface between an NMS and a network device.
An advisory committee (Consultative Committee on International Telephone and
Telegraph) established by the United Nations to recommend communications
standards and policies. Now called ITU-T.
A fax modem standard. Under Class 1 computer software handles most of the
protocol, compression, and conversion tasks.
A fax modem standard. Under Class 2 the modem handles most of the protocol,
compression, and conversion tasks as well as modulation, leaving the computer free
for other work.
Diagnostic Channel. The diagnostic interface between two network devices, used to
extend the NMS diagnostics to downstream devices.
DATAPHONE II. The name of both a family of AT&T DCE and NMS products (SC,
DC, and NC), and the network management protocol used by these products.
A single 64-kbps digital channel used for transmitting VF data. T1 trunks comprise
24 usable DS0s, and E1 trunks comprise 30 usable DS0s.
Data Terminal Equipment, such as a computer, which provides data for
transmission.
Ear and Mouth. A signaling protocol used in telephony. An E&M card in the AAC
controls the flow of voice traffic.
Error Correction. Common error correction protocols are V.42, MNP4, MNP 10,
and ETC.
