Modem Repair and Maintenance
When a modem is removed from the carrier, a switch is
activated in the 4-Wire E&M NIM which puts the M-lead
in the off-hook, or active state. This removes the port
from service.
In addition, when a modem is removed from a slot, its
partner modem detects this on its DTE crossover cable.
This causes the partner modem to set its M-lead to the
active state, taking it out of service as well.
It is not necessary to power down the carrier to remove
and replace a 3811Plus modem. Perform the following
steps.
Procedure
CAUTION
If you remove the 3811 Plus
modem from the carrier,
always use a ground strap
when handling the modem.
Always store the 3811 Plus in
an antistatic bag when it is
removed from the carrier.
1. Rotate the circuit pack lock until the release tab is
exposed.
2. Press down on the release tab and pull the modem
away from the carrier's backplane.
