Install the SDU
An SDU is installed in the slot at the extreme left end
of the carrier (Slot 0). It is required if the devices in the
carrier are to be controlled by an NMS, or if multiple
carriers in a cabinet configuration are to be controlled
from a single SDCP.
Before installing the SDU in its dedicated slot in the
carrier (Slot 0), you must first set the carrier address.
The SDU has two sets of DIP switches labeled S2 and
S1. See Figure 3-7.

S2: Use the top DIP switch to specify the carrier
address (1– 8) so that each device in a cabinet
configuration has a unique identity. Only the first
three switches (S2-1 through S2-3) are operational;
496-14811-01
the fourth switch (S2- 4) is reserved for future use.
S1: Use the bottom DIP switch to specify the
channel operation (CC for network Control
Channel or DC for a modem Diagnostic Channel)).
Set the SDU switches.
Procedure
1. Set S2 for the address of the carrier where the
SDU will be installed. See Table 3-5.
2. Set S1 to the connection type. See Table 3-6.
