7. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Starting the system

7.1.
Press key 5 on the control panel (see chapter 9).
CAUTION:
 You may notice some smoke being released by the boiler when the system is started up, especially if the
chimney flue does not have appropriate draft (for instance, insufficient height of the chimney flue or
obstruction of the chimney flue outlet gas duct). We recommend that you check the condition of the chimney
flue. The same process may be observed during transition periods (in spring and autumn), when the natural
draft of the chimney flue does not balance the loss of the system outlet gas duct given the high ambient
temperature.
 The incorrect adjustment of the initial fuel dose could cause the boiler to release smoke, due to the
insufficient tightness of the seals. If this is the case, you need to adjust the boiler operating parameters - this
procedure can only be performed by an authorised, trained and certified technician.

Boiler operating parameters

7.2.
The boiler operating mode is defined directly by setting the related thermostat set-point. Nevertheless, you need
to consider that the temperature of the inlet water affects the operating mode of the system, with consequences
on reliability and efficiency.
CAUTION: the manufacturer guarantees the efficient and reliable functioning of the system consisting of the hot
water pellet boiler only if the operating mode falls within the range of parameters specified in Table 3.2 herein.

Nominal operating mode of the system

7.3.
The adjustment of the operating parameters must be made when both the boiler and the system have achieved
stable thermal conditions.
NOTE:
 The temperature of the return flow of water circulating in a heating system must exceed 60
formation of condensation on the internal surfaces of the boiler.
 At the initial start-up of the boiler, you may observe water vapour condensation. This process does not
affect the performance of the system and does not cause any operating faults.

7.4.
Preliminary checks
RED will not be held liable for any damage to persons, animals or property caused
by failure to observe the above instructions.
Before starting the boiler, it is advisable to check that:
 the drawing of combustion air and the smoke outlet system are working properly as set out in the
applicable standards in force;
 the supply voltage of the electrical accessory components of the boiler is 230 V – 50 Hz;
 the system is full of water;

any cut-off gate valves on the system are open;
 the external main switch is on;
 the safety valve on the system is not blocked and that it is connected to the sewer drain;

there are no water leaks;
 the ventilation conditions and minimum clearances for maintenance to be performed are guaranteed.
