6 Maintenance / repair

6.1 Maintenance

Your wheelchair has been provided with the CE marking. The manufacturer herewith guarantees that this medical
device as a whole conforms to the requirements of the European Directive for Medical Devices 93/42/EEC.
The proper functioning of the wheelchair, in particular of the brakes, must be checked before every use.
Some maintenance operations can be carried out to a certain extent by the user or an accompanying person

(Scopes of maintenance).

We also recommend that you have the wheelchair serviced every 12 months by your authorised Otto Bock dealer.
If faults are discovered, in particular in the event of instability of the wheelchair or a change in its operating beha
viour, contact your dealer immediately to have these faults remedied.
Service and repair work may only be carried out by authorised dealers or by the manufacturer. This ensures that
any necessary repairs are made exclusively with original Otto Bock spare parts.

6.1.1 Maintenance intervals

The functions described below must be checked at the indicated intervals by the user or an accompanying person:
Inspection task
Function check of the brakes
Sagging of seat or backrest cover
Footplate stability
Visual inspection of wear parts (e.g. tyres, bearings)
Soiling of bearings
Damage to the push ring
Air pressure (printed on the tyre sidewall)
Wear and tear of the folding mechanism
Check the spoke tension of the rear wheels
Check all bolted connections
6.1.2 Scopes of maintenance
Some parts of the wheelchair can be maintained by the user or an accompanying person with some technical skills in
order to ensure smooth operation at all times:
Hair and dirt frequently collect between the front wheel fork and the front wheel which over time makes the front
wheels stiff to operate. To remedy this, remove the front wheel and thoroughly clean the forks and wheel using a
mild household cleaner.
The rear wheels are equipped with quick-release axles. To keep this system operational, ensure that no dirt
adheres to the quick-release axle or axle housing. Furthermore, the quick-release axle should also be lightly lubric
ated with resin-free sewing machine oil from time to time.
