6. Position control shaft in camshaft carrier
ensuring that shaft is fully seated in journals
and centre of slot in shaft is aligned with
cylinder head mating surface of carrier.
7. Position front and rear inlet camshafts and
VVC assemblies in camshaft carrier at the
same time engaging teeth of control shaft in
VVC assemblies.
8. Check that bolt holes in VVC housings are
aligned with bolt holes in camshaft carrier, that
centre of slot in control shaft is still aligned with
cylinder head mating surface of carrier and
timing plates 18G 1770/1 - front and 18G
1770/2 - rear are correctly located in the
control sleeves and control shaft is still seated
in journals.
CAUTION: If bolt holes are not correctly
/ j \ aligned or slot in c o n t r o l shaft has m o v e d ,
re-position VVC assemblies a n d shaft as
necessary until a l i g n m e n t is correct.
10. Remove clamps 18G 1770.
~ CAUTION: Do not remove t i m i n g plates at
/ j \ this stage or damage to VVC housing
seals w i l l result.

11. Apply continuous, thin beads of sealant, Part
Number GUG 705963GM to paths on cylinder
head as shown then spread to an even film
using a roller.
~ CAUTION: Ensure that sealant is kept
/ j \ clear of oil feed holes, oil g r o o v e s and
c o n t r o l shaft journals and that assembly is
c o m p l e t e d w i t h i n 20 minutes.
D u r i n g the f o l l o w i n g operations it is essential to
ensure that front and rear inlet camshafts are
retained in the c a m s h a f t carrier a n d their
respective VVC assemblies. Take great care not
to rotate c a m s h a f t s or control shaft.
12. Invert camshaft carrier and fit to cylinder head.
9. Fit and finger tighten slave bolts - front and
rear VVC assemblies to camshaft carrier.
~ NOTE: Slave bolts must be replaced with
/ \ new Patchlok bolts when camshaft carrier
is fitted.
