Fibre channel loop and ID settings

When you install a hard disk drive in the expansion unit, the drive tray plugs into a
printed circuit board called the midplane. The midplane sets the fibre channel loop
ID automatically, based on the enclosure ID switch setting and the physical location
(bay) of the hard disk drive.

Server ID (enclosure ID) settings

The DS4100 comes with a server ID switch (also referred to as an enclosure ID
switch) that is used to identify the DS4100 on a fibre channel loop. The server ID
switch is located on the back of the unit, as shown in Figure 22.
Use the small buttons above and below each server ID digit to change the server
ID setting. Press the button located above the digit to lower the digit by one. Press
the button located below the digit to raise the digit by one.

a unique enclosure ID. DS4000 controllers use a combination of the enclosure ID
and the number of the physical slot that a fibre channel hard drive occupies to
create a unique fibre channel loop address or arbitrated loop physical address
(AL_PA) for each drive in a fibre channel drive loop. The enclosure ID consists of
two digits, a tens digit (x10) and ones digit (x1).

prevent the server ID from being changed accidentally. If your storage server
has a protective panel over the server ID switch, use a pencil or a small
screwdriver to change the server ID.
connect the storage server to a DS4000 EXP100, you must set the DS4000
EXP100 enclosure ID setting to a value other than 00. Each server unit
should have a unique ID if it is going to be connected to other drive
