Installing SFPs and fiber-optic cables

Each RAID controller unit has two host ports and one expansion unit port. SFPs are
inserted into the ports, and then fibre-channel cables are connected to the SFPs.
For information on installing SFPs and fiber-optic cables, see "Working with SFPs
and fiber-optic cables" on page 45.
Adding a DS4000 EXP100 to an existing DS4100 configuration (base
storage server only)
You can add up to seven DS4000 EXP100 storage expansion units to a DS4100
storage server. However, you do not need to configure the DS4100 with the
maximum number of DS4000 EXP100s at the time of initial installation. You can
add additional DS4000 EXP100s to an existing DS4100 configuration (up to the
maximum number of DS4000 EXP100s supported in a drive loop) as you need
more capacity.
Before you cable DS4000 EXP100s to a loop, refer to the DS4100 Storage Server
Fibre Channel Cabling Instructions that come with your storage server for specific
instructions.
Figure 78 on page 110 shows the process of adding an additional DS4000 EXP100
to an existing DS4100 storage server configuration. Drive loops A and B form one
redundant fibre-channel loop.
Note: Always add a new DS4000 EXP100 to the end of a drive loop.
Important
There might be a requirement for new firmware to support the maximum
number of DS4000 EXP100s in a drive loop. Always add new DS4000
EXP100s when the DS4100 is powered on and in optimal state. Do not add
new DS4000 EXP100s when the DS4100 is powered down.
