All factory-delivered DS4100 RAID controllers are shipped with a recent version of
controller firmware loaded on the RAID controller, but that firmware version might
not match precisely the firmware version of the failed RAID controller you have
replaced. When you replace the RAID controller in the DS4100 single-controller
storage server, if the firmware version of the replacement RAID controller is
determined to be incompatible with the configuration database during the boot
process, the DS4100 single-controller storage server will enter a Stop State and will
not allow any DS4000 Storage Manager operations to be performed. In this case,
you must manually upgrade or downgrade the replacement RAID controller
firmware to match the version required by the configuration database. Refer to the
storage subsystem profile that you created before replacing the RAID controller,
which identifies the appropriate firmware revision.

1. Use the procedure described in "Turning off the storage server" on page 67 to
power off the storage server.
2. Label each of the drives in the storage server according to its location in the
storage server (1 - 14) so that you can reinstall them correctly.
3. Remove each drive from the storage server.
4. Use the procedure described in "Turning on the storage server" on page 66 to
power on the storage server.
5. Use the DS4000 Storage Manager Enterprise Management Window (EMW) to
remove the old RAID controller from the management domain.
6. If the configuration is to be performed by DS4000 Storage Manager via an
Ethernet connection, the replacement controller needs to be assigned an
accessible IP address. Factory-delivered replacement controllers will have a
factory default IP address that might not be accessible in customer Ethernet
environments.
v If your IP addresses are set by DHCP, then modify the DHCP record for the
replacement RAID controller with the new MAC address.
v If you do not specify the IP address of the new controller using DHCP, and
you did not manually set the old controller static IP address using Storage
Manager, then you can use the default IP address 192.168.128.101.
v If you did set the static IP address of the old controller, first try to make
management contact using the existing static IP address. If the existing
static IP address does not work, try the default IP address 192.168.128.101.
For details on how to obtain the IP address for the replacement RAID
controller, refer to the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 Storage Manager 9.10
Installation and Support Guide for the appropriate operating system. Do not
utilize the serial port for this purpose unless directed by your IBM support
representative.
7. Use the EMW to add the new RAID controller to the management domain
using the IP address assigned to the new controller. The RAID controller will
appear in the EMW as Storage Array Unnamed and the storage space is not
available (greyed out).
8. Use the DS4000 Storage Manager Subsystem Management Window (SMW) to
change the NVSRAM of the new RAID controller to match the version number
stored in your storage subsystem profile. (Refer to your printout.) After 15-20
minutes, the SMW reports a download failure. Click OK to ignore the error
warning and instructions and proceed with the following step.
9. Use the EMW to remove the RAID controller from the management domain
and again add the new controller using the IP address assigned to it by the IP
server.
