4 Configuring the Camera

A400k cameras come with a factory set of configuration parameters and they will work properly
for most applications with only minor changes to the configuration. For normal operation, the
following parameters are usually configured by the user:
• Video data output mode
• Exposure time control mode
• Exposure time (for ExSync programmable mode or free-run programmable mode)
• Frame period (for ExSync programmable mode or free-run programmable mode)
To customize operation for your particular application, the following parameters can also be
configured:
• Gain
• Offset
• Shading Correction
• Digital Shift
• Area of Interest (AOI)
• Stamp
• Programmable AOI Sequencer
• Flash Trigger
• Mirror Image
• Parameter Set Cache
The camera is programmable via the RS-644 serial connection in the Camera Link interface
between the frame grabber and the camera. Two methods can be used to change the camera's
parameters. The first and easier approach is to change the parameters using the Camera
Configuration Tool Plus (CCT+). See Section
You can also change the parameters directly from your application by using binary read/write
commands to set the camera's registers (see Section 4.2).
