Checking the status of the CD-ROM media tray

If your BladeCenter unit was shipped to you before June 2003, the CD-ROM media
tray might require an update for correct CD-ROM operation with the blade server.
From the management-module Web-based management and configuration program
main menu, you can select settings that you want to view or change. The
navigation pane (on the left side of the management module window) contains
navigational links that you use to manage your BladeCenter unit and check the
status of the components (modules and blade servers).
Complete the following steps to determine whether the media tray requires
replacement:
1. In the navigation pane, select Hardware VPD.
2. In the management module window (on the right side), go to the "BladeCenter
If the media tray requires replacement, call the IBM Support Center
(1-800-IBM-SERV) to report the down level component as a failed part and request
a replacement media tray that can be used with your blade server. Before you can
install and use the blade server in the BladeCenter unit, the media tray must be
replaced in the BladeCenter unit as described in the Eserver BladeCenter Type
8677 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide on the IBM
BladeCenter Documentation CD.
