v The SOL Blade System Management Processors (BSMP) address range can be
any valid IP address. These addresses are used for internal communications and
are not exposed to the external network.
Complete the following steps to update the management-module firmware and
configure the management module to enable SOL:
1. Start the Web-based management and configuration program (see "Starting the
management and configuration program in the management module" on page
44).
2. Complete the following steps to update the BladeCenter management module
firmware:
a. Download the latest management-module firmware from the IBM Support
Web site, http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/; then, uncompress and store the
firmware update files in a temporary location on the client computer.
b. Three packet (.pkt) files are used to update the firmware for the
management module. Complete the following steps for each of the packet
files:
1) In the navigation pane, click MM Control → Firmware Update.
2) Click Browse...; then, select a firmware update packet (.pkt) file to
update and click Open.
3) Click Update; then, click Continue to confirm.
A message is displayed when the update is complete.
4) Repeat these steps for each of the remaining firmware update packet
files.
c. Complete the following steps to restart the management module. Do not
restart the management module until all of the firmware update packet files
are installed.
1) In the navigation pane, click MM Control → Restart MM.
2) Click Restart.
3) Click OK to confirm.
4) Restarting the management module ends the current Web-based
management and configuration program session. Click Yes to end the
session.
3. Start the Web-based management and configuration program (see "Starting the
management and configuration program in the management module" on page
44). You must wait approximately 10 seconds for the management module to
restart before attempting start the Web-based management and configuration
program.
4. Complete the following steps to enable SOL for the management module:
a. Complete the following steps to configure the internal network interface
(eth1) settings:
1) In the navigation pane, click MM Control → Network Interfaces.
2) Scroll to the Internal Ethernet Interface (eth1) section.
3) Make sure that Interface is set to Enabled.
4) Set the Static IP Configuration fields to the values that are required for
your physical network.
v IP address: x.xxx.xxx.xxx
v Subnet mask: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
v Gateway address: x.xxx.xxx.xxx
