Confidential Communication

Confidential Communication enables the reception of
confidential information or documents into a Confidential Box
that is registered in the receiving party's fax, thereby protecting
that information from being seen by others.

(1) What is the purpose of a Confidential Box?

A Confidential Box is actually used in both Confidential and
Encrypted Communication.
> Confidential Communication involves the receipt of confidential
documents into a Confidential Box registered in the receiving
party's fax. You can create a Confidential Box for Confidential
Communication by simply registering a corresponding Confidential
Box number (4 digits) and Confidential Box ID (4 digits).
> Encrypted Communication allows documents to be received into a
Confidential Box that has been designated for Encrypted
Reception. It is, therefore, necessary to create a Confidential Box –
and designate it for Encrypted Reception – in advance, in the
receiving party's fax machine.
(Refer to "Encrypted Communication", page 4-51.)
* You can register up to 15 Confidential Boxes (#01 - #15) in this fax
machine and designate any number of those boxes for Encrypted
Reception.
* If you want to check the information on each Confidential Box, such
as the box numbers and data regarding the existence of documents
in each respective box, print out a Confidential Box List. (Refer to
"(7) Printing Out a Confidential Box (F-Code Box) List", page 4-17.)

(2) Registering Confidential Boxes

Perform the following procedure to register a new Confidential Box.
* If, for any reason, you lose reference to a Confidential Box ID,
you will not be able to print out documents that are received into
the corresponding Confidential Box nor will you be able to delete
that box. Therefore, you exercise DUE CAUTION in the
management of the Confidential Box ID.
<Caution>
While both the subaddress (used for the F-Code Boxes in F-Code
Based Communications) and the box numbers used for the
Confidential Boxes are created with a 4-digit number from "0000"
to "9999", the same number CANNOT be registered for both.
For example, if the subaddress "1234" is already registered for an
F-Code Box and you try to register "1234" as a Confidential Box
number, an error will occur and registration will not be possible.
In this case, register a different number for that Confidential Box.

* To accomplish Confidential Communication, the other party's
fax machine must be one of our models that has Confidential
Communication capabilities.
* If you want to cancel the procedure part way through, press the
Reset key. The operation panel will return to the initial mode settings.
