Section 1 Basic Use of this Fax
Receiving Documents
(Automatic Fax Reception)
Automatic Fax Reception is the default setting for fax reception in this
machine and no special settings are required for its use.
* Fax reception is possible even if the main switch is turned OFF (

When a fax comes in, fax reception will begin automatically
after the amount of time equal to a designated number of rings.
* Once fax reception begins, the COMMUNICATING indicator
will light but the message display itself will not show any
indication of the reception in progress.
> Checking the status of the reception
Raise both cover plates and hold down the ALTERNATE
DISPLAY key. The status of the reception currently in
progress will be shown in the message display during the time
that this key is held down.
Once you release the ALTERNATE DISPLAY key, the
message display will return to its previous state.

<Reception modes>
This fax machine offers the following 4 ways to receive a fax.

• Automatic Fax Reception
• Manual Fax Reception
• Auto FAX/TEL Switching
• TAD Reception
> Stopping the reception in progress
To stop the reception in progress, raise both cover plates, hold down
the ALTERNATE DISPLAY key and press the Stop/Clear key.
The reception will be cancelled.

Making copies during a reception

It is possible to make copies even during a reception in which
documents are being directly printed out.
• Press the Interrupt key during a reception. The fax will switch to
Memory Reception and copying will be possible.

Memory Reception

When you cannot print out because paper has run out or a paper jam
occurs, the data for all received documents will be temporarily stored
in memory and will then be printed out automatically once printing is
enabled.
* If, for any reason, power to the fax is disconnected or lost, a portion
of first data received into memory may be lost. Ask the other party
to retransmit any documents for which data was lost.

* Up to 250 sheets of plain paper (80 g/m
store section. When the maximum number of sheets has been
reached, remove all of the documents from the copy store section.
* Even if you cannot print out because paper has run out or a paper
jam occurs, reception is still possible (Memory Reception).
* If neither drawer contains paper of the same size as the received
documents, reception will accomplished into memory. In this case,
you can force-print the received documents onto a different size of
paper. (Refer to page 2-14.)
* 4 MB of optional Bitmap Memory must be installed in order to print
out documents received with the ULTRA FINE setting at their
intended resolution.
