4.2.4 Remove Cover for Drive Bay Three
Remove the drive bay cover (ROM Cover) that protects the SCSI con-
nectors when no drive is installed. See Figure 4-10, Remove Drive
Bay Cover.
4.2.5 Install Reader into Drive Bay & Replace Clamper Assembly
Follow the steps below to install the reader into the DRM-5004X.
1. Remove the ROM cover plate on the drive bay three or the
drive bay where the drive is to be installed. See Figure 4-10.
2. Slide the DR-D504X reader into the lower left drive bay and
attach it with two screws.
NOTE: The SCSI cable connector on the drive unit indi-
cates the front of the unit.
3. Connect the SCSI cable. See Figure 4-11, Cable Connectors

4. Connect four connectors on the front section of the reader.
There are two cables on the left, one with four pins and one
with five pins. There is one cable on the right with three
pins, and there is one cable toward the top of the unit with
nine pins. These connections should match those made on
the standard reader installed in the bay above.
CAUTION: If you push too hard you can bend the pins or
crack the plastic housing or connector wire casings. Also,
secure the cables of the right and top connectors so they are
flush against the drive. Tie them with a black wire tie.
Failure to do this can result in damage to the unit. The disc
transporter will be caught and break.
5. Slide the clamper assembly back into place. Using a mag-
netic screwdriver, re-screw two side screws and the one cen-
ter screw. Make sure that the wires to the spindle motor on
the right-hand drive are not pinched by the clamper assem-
bly. Place the connectors and wires of the clamper assembly
between the two drive bays and secure with wire ties as in
upper section.
6. Screw in two outer screws of the clamper assembly.
7. Carefully secure all wires. When the disc transporter is
moved to the front of the drive unit, the distance between
the disc transporter and the drive is very small.
