4.5.5 Testing the Unit
The Aging Mode A test selects a disc from a magazine and transports
it to a drive. The disc is "spun up", a test "read" is done on the disc
and then it is "spun down." Then the disc is returned to indicated
slots in the disc magazines. For a complete description of Aging Mode,
See Chapter 5, Test Mode.
NOTE: The Aging Mode A test can be set to run for any number of
cycles, up to 500. The default setting is 500, which takes more than
18 hours. To run a basic test on all parts of the DRM-5004X, it is
recommended that the Aging Mode A test be run for five cycles.
Follow these directions to run the Aging Mode A test for five cycles:
1. Install 8 CD-ROM discs in slots 1 - 4 and 51 - 54 of the top maga-
zine. For the purpose of this test, slot 1 is the upper left slot and
slot 500 is the lower right slot. All other slots must be empty.
See Figure 4-37, Vertical Addresses Used in Test Mode. (Use the
Pioneer Disc Setting Tool to insert discs into the magazine.)
NOTE: Remove the top magazine to load discs. If there are
discs in the magazine, install the shipping plate before moving
the magazine. Remove the shipping plate to remove or load
discs and again after the magazines have been loaded into the
unit. Load discs label side up or a disc read error will occur.
All the other magazines must have no discs loaded, but they
must be installed in the unit.
2. Enter test mode 5, submode 0 by depressing the MD+ switch
until the display shows "50_000". See Figure 4-38.
NOTE: Aging Mode A will continue to cycle test 500 times,
unless a limit is set. Limit the number of cycles to five by
following the directions in steps 3 and 4.
3. Enter submode 4 to limit the number of cycles. Press the SM+
button until the display shows "54_500".
4. Set 5 cycles be pressing keys S1 (X00), S2 (0X0), and S3 (00x)
to set the digit numbers. The display should read "54_005".
See Figure 4-39.
