NOTE: Instructions in this section can be used to install readers into
any of the drive bays. To install one or more writers, see Section 4.4.
4.2.1 Pre-Configure CD-ROM Readers
Follow these three steps to pre-configure a Pioneer CD-ROM Reader to
prepare it for installation into the DRM-5004X:
A. Orient the servo section of the drive. Make sure the readerÕs
servo is oriented properly for installation into either a right or
left drive bay. The unit is shipped with a right orientation. See
Figure 4-1, Orientation of the DR-D504X CD-ROM Reader.

B. Set the jumper pins on the circuit board of the reader for
sector size to either 2048 or 512 bytes. The factory set default
is 2048 bytes. See Figure 4-2, Jumper Pins on Circuit board
of DR-D504X. See page 4-7 for procedure.
C. If necessary, set termination on the reader using DIP switch-
es on the front of the reader. The unit is shipped with termina-
tion OFF. See Figure 4-3, Front View of Reader showing DIP
Switches for Termination. See page 4-9 for procedure.
The following sections describe in detail how to pre-configure the
Pioneer DR-D504X Reader.
