2.2.2 Internal Components of the Reader
The internal components of the DR-D504X are listed below and iden-
tified in the illustration to the left.
See Figure 2-15, Components of the DR-D504X CD-ROM Reader.
1. Servo Mechanism - This mechanism tracks the optical head.
2. Shield Casing - The metal casing around the main controller
assembly.
3. Optical Head - The optical read head of the DR-D504X.
4. Spindle Motor - The motor spins the disc at four times high-
rotational speed.
5. Setting SCSI ID Connector - This (4 pin) connector is used to
connect the SCSI ID switches on the rear panel of the
DRM-5004X and to convey the SCSI ID setting to the Reader.
6. Controller Connector - This (5 pin) connector attaches the
DR-D504X to the controller board and conveys drive presence
and clamp status to the main CPU.
7. Power Connector - This (9 pin) connector attaches the
DR-D504X to the DRM-5004X and the power supply.
8. SCSI Connector - This (50 pin) connector attaches the
DR-D504X to the SCSI chain at the rear of the DRM-5004X.
9. Audio Connector - This (3 pin) connector attaches the
DR-D504X to the DRM-5004X for audio capability.
10. Terminator Switch - These switches set the termination ON/OFF.
11. Servo Mechanism Boards - Controller circuit boards for the
servo mechanism.
12. Spindle Board - Controller circuit board for the spindle motor.
13. Cable Connector - Connects the Servo Mechanism Board to
the Spindle Board.
