Powering Multiple Z-Trak2 2K or Z-Trak LP2C 4K Sensors
CAUTION
When using multiple Z-Trak2 2K or Z-Trak LP2C 4K profilers, caution is necessary when combining the
Auxiliary Power input with a network switch that also supports PoE, PoE+, or PoE++ (referred to below as
PoE):
•
When using auxiliary power with the Z-Trak sensors, disable PoE. Auxiliary power has higher priority.
Turning on the auxiliary power will reboot the sensors if they have already booted using PoE.
•
When possible, use the same power source for the PC and the Z-Trak profilers. For example, when using
Teledyne DALSA's industrial products like GEVA-4000, GEVA-400 or VICORE that use 24 V DC as power
source, we highly recommend powering the GEVA and the Z-Trak sensors with the same power supply.
•
When using PoE to power the Z-Trak devices, disconnect the auxiliary power ground from the 3D sensors.
Connecting auxiliary power to the Z-Trak sensors prevents the use of PoE, even if the auxiliary power is
not on.
Operating Conditions
Temperature Management
The 3D sensors are designed to optimally transfer internal component heat to the outer metallic body. Heat
management is achieved by mounting the profiler with metal screws onto a metal structure that conducts heat
(which will act as a heatsink) via its mounting screw holes, and by providing the proper air flow. If the profiler is
not mounted and has no means to dissipate heat, it may become very warm to the touch. Measurements are valid
when the 3D sensor is used within recommended operating conditions.

The Z-Trak2 S-Series and Z-Trak LP2C Series, when connected to a 5 GigE link, it will consume more power and
therefore generate more heat.
NOTE
Z-Trak2/Z-Trak LP2C generates more heat when powered via PoE. Make sure the operating temperature of
the unit is properly controlled.
