5.2 Installing process flanges

5.2.2
Installing process flanges
Note
Prior to the installation of receiver and emitter units, the process flanges must be welded in at
the measurement point and must be compatible with DN50/PN10-40 with the minimum
inner diameter of 50 mm (2.0 in).
The flanges must protrude at least 150 mm (5.9 in) (max. 250 mm (9.8 in)) from the wall and
25 to 40 mm (1.0 to 1.6 in) into the process area. Flange tubes should never be longer than
the purge tube at a standard length of 400 mm (15.7 in). The symmetry axis of the flanges
must align within +-1° to enable optimum (following) alignment of sensors to the optical
axis.
The emitter unit and the receiver unit need to be aligned with respect to the axis of symmetry
of the flange.
① Min. Ø 50 mm (2.0 in)
② DN50 flange
③ Approx. 25 to 40 mm (1.0 to 1.6
④ Max. deviation ± 1°
During the installation of the SITRANS TDL, check that the light from the laser inside the
emitter reaches the photodiode inside the receiver by using the alignment procedure.

Flange installation

Note
Process purging tube optional
Process purging is not a requirement, therefore the purging tube is optional. Depending on
the operation site, process purging may be necessary to achieve stable long term operation.
