For Select-Then-Transmit or Instant Transmit types, one or more channels may be
used to transmit the page; channels that support a Tone Frequency may specify the
specific frequency to use for this Instant Call page stack.
Manual (Keypad) Operation
The keypad and control buttons of the encoder are normally used for paging seldom
called, nonemergency equipment, or personnel which may not merit an individual
INSTANT CALL button. Typical operation from the keypad is probably from a list that
matches an individual to a keypad entry code and a send channel.
Manual pages are created by using the keypad to enter a leading digit (corresponding to a
page type), followed by the capcode (correctly formatted based on the page type). Keypad
entries can only be made while the encoder is idle (not transmitting or programming). As
digits are entered, they appear in the display. An invalid entry displays the Page Error
message and aborts that entry. If a mistake was made in entering the code, the PAGE
CLEAR button clears the entry without affecting previous entries. These pages are either
sent directly as a single page, or entered into queue/stack for sending in a sequence.

After keypad entry, the SEND button must be pressed to transmit the page.
While the page is being transmitted, the button's LED is on. As the page is
transmitted, the display shows the pager code and any related paging messages
or prompts, such as "talk", "dlay", or "kpad". After the page has been
transmitted, it can be repeated by pressing the SEND button again. Each
manual page transmits on the channels and frequencies defined with the
corresponding leading digit.
Several paging codes may be accumulated into the keypad paging stack prior
to sending. Stacking pages makes more efficient use of transmission time since
the stack sequence takes less time than if each individual page were
transmitted separately. Stacking is performed by making an entry and pressing
the ENTER button. The display then shows the slash (/) terminator character
and the ENTER button LED blinks. This shows there is an entry in the keypad
stack. This process can be repeated for several paging codes. The stack is quite
large and it is unlikely that the limit will ever be reached, but if the stack does
fill, the display does not change when the ENTER button is pressed.
The keypad paging stack is transmitted by pressing the SEND button.
Transmission of the stack begins with the first code entered and proceeds in
the order of entry. As each pager code is transmitted, its code appears in the
