E&M
E&M (Ear and Mouth) signaling originated from early telephone systems
to provide a means of establishing calls between exchanges. Modern

systems do not use E&M signaling and use either in-band signaling or

dedicated data channels to set up calls. E&M leads are now commonly
used as multipurpose signaling connections. To avoid confusion, the
terms E and M are often replaced by SO (Signaling Out) and SI
(Signaling In) throughout this manual set.

that combines trunked radio and cellular phone features.

IRR is an application used to control the voice recording process.

Transceiver
A circuit that can connect to a shared bus for the purpose of receiving and
transmitting. A cooperative protocol for the bus ensures that only one
transceiver on a bus transmits at any one time.
