Setting the Call Mode (Group vs. Private)
Generic transmits (Xmit button, footswitch PTT, etc.) initiate a group or a private call
dependent on the currently selected call mode. The current call mode can be changed by
pressing the CHAN MODE button. This button toggles the mode between GRP and PVT.
Dependent on current call mode, the private ID or talkgroup of the last call initiated or
received is displayed in each channel window. Calls always display the appropriate private
ID or talkgroup during the duration of the call. In the idle state, the most recent private ID
or talkgroup transmitted, or received, displays according to the channels call mode.
Initiating a Group Call
The dispatcher can initiate a group call from the SDC call submenu, from the main video
screen if programmed to do so, or from the Subscriber List window using the toolbar
buttons if enabled, and then clicks the CALL REPLY button. To make a group call, the
dispatcher first highlights the channel (using the mouse pointer and the left mouse button)
that is used for the transmission, and then presses the XMIT button.
Alternatively, the TRANSMIT button on the audio panel, the XMIT screen button, or a
footswitch can be used to perform a group call when in GRP call mode (See

selected (green-highlighted) channel.
Initiating a Private Call
To make a private call, the dispatcher first selects the channel that is used for the
transmission, enters the destination radio ID (either by manual key entry or a Subscriber
ID alias button), then presses the PRIVATE CALL button.
When the selected channel is in PVT call mode, a private call can be placed by clicking
TRANSMIT on the audio panel, the XMIT screen button, or a footswitch. The private call
goes to the private ID of the last private call initiated or received.
The supported ID format is urban*fleet*member with the following rules:
• The ID is up to 15 characters long and purely numeric except for the two asterisks
as field separator characters.
• Each field valid range is 1 to 1048575. The binary value of the combined numeric
value of all fields shall not exceed 35 bits in length.
• The first field is the urban, second is fleet, and third is member.
If the called radio is not available, the call is logged in the Call History window but the
channel icon displays "Tgt Nt Rsp" (Target Not Responding) instead of the ID value.
Maintaining a Group or Private Call
Once a group or private call has been set up, the standard TRANSMIT, XMIT, or
footswitch PTT buttons can be used to maintain a conversation on the selected channel.
