Fault Detection

The device detects and indicates overcurrent phase and di/dt faults by continuously monitoring the phase
current based on the device configuration. In a fault condition, the voltage presence or absence is used to
determine a temporary fault or permanent fault indication. The temporary phase fault evolves to a permanent
phase fault after confirming the voltage absence on the MV overhead line.
Both the phase fault and DI fault indications can be enabled or disabled using the respective configurations in
the SICAM FSI Configurator.

The fault current threshold (I
detect and indicate a fault condition.
The fault current threshold has a wide configurable range from 10 A to 1500 A. The fault current threshold
can be set in the following ways
Manual Configuration: The fault current threshold value can be manually assigned by the user using
SICAM Configurator.
Automatic configuration: the fault current threshold is set automatically in the device based on a auto
threshold functionality algorithm. Refer to Auto Threshold Functionality below for detailed information.
Auto Threshold Functionality
The SICAM FSI V2.0 B-Sensor is equipped with an advanced auto threshold functionality that enables efficient
fault detection. This feature is designed to operate with nominal current bands and configurable fault factor
settings, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
The auto threshold functionality consists of 8 operational bands, with each bands representing a specific
nominal current range for the system. The highest current value within each range is used as a reference to
determine the fault threshold. The fault threshold can be adjusted using a configurable auto threshold fault
factor, which can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of the system.

For the last two bands, if the fault current threshold crosses 1500 A, then irrespective of the fault factor,
the fault threshold will be considered as 1500 A as that is the maximum range of the device.
To handle dynamic load currents effectively, the auto threshold functionality incorporates two additional
settings. These settings are timers that monitor change in current ranges and validate the fault threshold once
the timer conditions are fulfilled.
