Device Functions 4.1 Voltage Detection and Network Parameters Voltage Detection and Network Parameters Voltage Detection 4.1.1 SICAM FSI V2.0 B-Sensor senses the presence/absence of MV overhead line voltage. In case of a fault condition, the voltage absence or presence is used to determine whether the fault is a temporary fault or permanent fault.
  • Page 53: Fault Detection

Device Functions 4.2 Fault Detection Fault Detection The device detects and indicates overcurrent phase and di/dt faults by continuously monitoring the phase current based on the device configuration. In a fault condition, the voltage presence or absence is used to determine a temporary fault or permanent fault indication.
  • Page 54 Device Functions 4.2 Fault Detection • Range Change Monitoring Time (T1): This timer is designed to monitor the transition between current ranges when there is a change in the load current. It is activated when the load current crosses the maximum limit of a current range. The purpose of T1 is to track the duration during which the load current remains within the new range.
  • Page 55: Di Fault

Device Functions 4.2 Fault Detection NOTE By default, the fault current threshold is initially set to 1500 A through the auto threshold functionality. Subsequently, the device actively monitors the load current and adaptively recalibrates the fault current threshold to ensure optimal fault detection and response. NOTE The auto-threshold functionality is deactivated when there is voltage absence detected on the overhead line.
  • Page 56: Permanent-Fault Verification Time (Pfvt)

Device Functions 4.3 Permanent-Fault Verification Time (PFVT) Permanent-Fault Verification Time (PFVT) The Permanent-Fault Verification Time (PFVT) is the time range required to convert the temporary fault to a permanent fault, based on status of voltage and current. The PFVT can be configured as Disabled, 3 s, 35 s, and 70 s. For example, if the PFVT is set as 35 s and if a fault (phase, di/dt) occurs, it is termed as temporary fault.
  • Page 57: Temporary/Permanent Fault

Device Functions 4.4 Temporary/Permanent Fault Temporary/Permanent Fault Phase Faults The phase faults are classified as: • Temporary phase fault • Permanent phase fault Temporary Phase Fault When the phase current exceeds the configured current threshold, the device detects and indicates a tempo- rary phase fault.
  • Page 58 Device Functions 4.4 Temporary/Permanent Fault [dw_sfsi_permfault, 1, en_US] Figure 4-2 Permanent Phase Fault Temporary DI Fault Faults due to current variations can also be indicated by the rate of change of the phase current (di/dt) and it is termed as DI fault. Device Functions 4.5 Fault Resets Fault Resets After the fault is reset, the device LEDs stops flashing and the phase-current measurements start again and the device is ready for detecting the new faults. The faults detected by the device can be reset with the following methods.
  • Page 62: Inrush Restraint

Device Functions 4.6 Inrush Restraint Inrush Restraint During the voltage restoration on the MV overhead line, the device blocks the detection of faults due to the transformer magnetization within the configured inrush-restraint time. The inrush-restraint time can be configured as Disabled, 3 s, 30 s, and 60 s. The inrush-restraint time is initiated only after a voltage is detected in SICAM FSI.
  • Page 63: Auto-Reclosure

Device Functions 4.7 Auto-Reclosure Auto-Reclosure The auto-reclosure function is used to block the redundant fault detection during the auto-reclosure retries which are made to restore the MV overhead line. In such case, when auto-reclosure time is set in the SICAM FSI Configurator, the device blocks such redundant fault detection for the configured auto-reclosure time.
