14.6. Changing the DC and AC surge arresters

These units are equipped with type 2 surge arresters in the DC and AC connections.
DC arresters
In the event of an overvoltage surge, it is possible for the DC surge arrester or the AC surge arresters and its
protection fuses to be damaged.
The damage of the overvoltage surge arresters is indicated with a warning. The warning indicates a surge arrester
fault, but it is necessary to carry out a visual inspection to know which surge arrester is damaged, and a verification
of the condition of the AC surge arrester protection fuses.

The surge arresters can be replaced partially or entirely. The modular system of the AC and DC surge arresters used
allows to replace only the damaged cartridge if desired. However, the surge arrester manufacturer recommends
replacing the entire surge arrester.
To replace these cartridges, proceed as follows:
1. Remove voltage as explained in section
2. Open the lower compartment.
3. The unit triggers an alarm when any of the cartridges fail, so you must inspect them to see which
cartridge is damaged. To do this, see the visual instructions on the arresters (green/red). The cartridges
with indications in red are those that must be replaced.
4. Extract the cartridge.
5. Replace the cartridge for another one with the same part number and manufacturer.
6. Close the lower compartment.
7. Close the DC and AC switches.
8. Check that the alarm has disappeared.
To replace the entire surge arrester, proceed as follows:
1. Remove voltage as explained in section
2. Open the lower compartment.
3. The unit triggers an alarm when any of the cartridges fail, so you must inspect them to see which
cartridge is damaged. Once it has been determined which surge arrester contains the damaged cartridges,
proceed with the replacement.
4. Remove the polycarbonate protection from the area where the damaged surge arrester is.
