IRIG TIME CODE CONNECTIONS

The IRIG reader input provides a means of bringing serial IRIG B time code into the HD9010TM-IRIG. Pin
1 of the XLR is ground, and pins 2 and 3 provide a balanced output. When using an unbalanced input to
the reader, the signal should be applied to pin 3 of the IRIG reader input connector. Normally, the unused
input (pin 2) should be connected to ground (pin 1).
The reading performance of the IRIG reader may be degraded if the phases of a
balanced signal are reversed. Therefore it is preferable to use an unbalanced input
applied to pin 3 in order to eliminate this phase sensitivity.
connected to ground in this case.

CONNECTING THE HD9010TM-IRIG TO A COMPUTER

2.8.1. Physical Connections

A nine pin sub-miniature 'D' connector (COM 1) is provided for connection to a computer. This serial port
provides a bi-directional RS-232-C data link for upgrading firmware. It also provides a serial data stream
containing the time and user bit data. In order to connect your HD9010TM-IRIG to your computer use
standard 9 pin 'straight through' cable. See section 4.1.10 for a complete description of how to upgrade
the firmware. Contact the factory for further information about the serial data output. The baud rate of this
port is set using the COM 1 BAUD RATE menu item.
A second nine pin sub-miniature 'D' connector (AUX COM) is provided for inputting metadata to be
encoded into the VANC data space. In order to connect your HD9010TM-IRIG to your computer use
standard 9 pin 'straight through' cable.
