Problem
The key cannot be turned in the ignition
lock.
You cannot lock or unlock the vehicle with
the key.
Possible cause
The key has been in position 0 in the ignition
lock for a considerable period of time.
The starter battery is discharged.
The batteries in the key are discharged.
The key is faulty.

Suggested solutions
Remove the key and re-insert it in the
ignition lock.
Check the starter battery and charge
it if necessary.
Jump-starting may be performed.
Check the batteries in the key
( page 84) and replace them if nec-
essary ( page 349).
Open the door with the emergency
key element ( page 348).
Open the rear door with the emergen-
cy key element ( page 348).
Have the key checked at a qualified
specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre.
